Korean industry has succeeded in short-term compression growth based on labor and capital-intensive mass production system. However, we are facing the limitations due to various industrial factors. In developed countries, creative innovation is already taking place through multidisciplinary convergence between IT, SW, and manufacturing industries for the preparation for the 4th industrial revolution. In particular, products/service/planning+concept design based on the convergence between industries and academic majors is now regarded as the monopoly of developed countries that create high added value. However, we have not well established strategies for fostering creative and innovative manpower through convergence and a lack of convergence manufacturing engineers to conduct planning+concept design.
Accordingly, this graduate program is established for the purpose of fostering creative leader-level engineers in the field of planning+concept design. To achieve this goal, our department expects the students graduated from various academic backgrounds, including mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, and industrial design. This graduate program emphasizes convergence engineering education particularly focusing on project-oriented curriculum converged with relevant industrial enterprises.
Professional experts possessing the capabilities of convergent manufacturing engineering should accumulate experience, expertise and know-how through multidisciplinary projects. However, conventional eduction based distinct academic major can not provide environments to gain experiences on performing convergence projects.
